Stearns School Road at US 41 Intersection Improvement Update
A modernization improvement at the intersection of Stearns School Road at US 41 is scheduled for construction in 2024.
The project aims to address overall safety, traffic operations, and intersection geometry by adding a southbound right turn lane and left turn lane on US 41, a second left turn lane on northbound US 41, a second right turn lane on eastbound Stearns School Road, and a westbound receiving lane on Stearns School Road.
Storm sewer laterals, including the culvert under Stearns School Road, will be extended due to the roadway widening. The US 41 median storm sewer will also be reconstructed to account for the new median configuration on the south leg of US 41.
This project is a partnership between the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). LCDOT led and funded Phase I and Phase II engineering and IDOT will lead and fund construction using federal safety funds. Expect to see crews out this winter conducting necessary work such as utility relocation and tree clearing in preparation for the construction season.
