County Clerk Anthony Vega Selected by American Council of Young Political Leaders for a Bipartisan Delegation Exchange to North Macedonia

Lake County Clerk Anthony Vega was nominated and selected to be part of a bipartisan delegation to North Macedonia by the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL). The international exchange program seeks to bring people together across oceans, borders, and the political spectrum to foster mutual understanding, respect, and friendships among the next generation of leaders worldwide.

ACYPL programs are designed for bipartisan groups of 7 emerging leaders under the age of 40 to experience another country’s political environment for 8-14 days. Participants visit the capital and other cities to meet with government officials, political parties, elected leaders, policy experts and members of the business community. These international exchanges are made possible with support from the U.S. Department of State, and other supporting partners.

Notable alumni of ACYPL include: Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Senator Mitch McConnell, Governor JB Pritzker, and Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim.

Gender Affirming Resources

2

Under House Bill 9, an amendment to state law now allows people to change the gender on their birth certificate by signing a statement affirming their gender designation or intersex condition.

An individual born in Illinois, with an existing Illinois birth certificate, may submit an Affidavit and Certificate of Correction Request form to the Lake County Clerk's Office requesting to have the gender changed on their own birth certificate.

The Affidavit and Certificate of Correction Request form needs to be completed in its entirety by the individual seeking a change in the sex designation on the birth certificate. Additionally the form must be signed and notarized. The applicant must be of legal age (or the parent/co-parent or guardian must be present if not of legal age) to complete the form.
