UPDATE: Precautionary Boil Order Remains in Effect for Forest Lake and Hawthorn Woods/Glennshire Subdivisions

Lake County Public Works customers in the Forest Lake and the Hawthorn Woods/Glennshire subdivisions, and select customers of the Villages of Hawthorn Woods and Kildeer, remain under a precautionary boil order until further notice.

Aqua Illinois, the water provider for these areas, has been experiencing difficulty with water delivery. A number of factors – including current drought conditions, multiple leaks and main breaks, and increased holiday demand - created a unique situation that made it difficult for the system to regain pressure, despite Aqua Illinois' best efforts. Aqua Illinois is asking all customers - residential and commercial - to continue to refrain from outdoor water usage during this time.

Lake County Public Works (LCPW) continues to monitor our systems and is working with Aqua Illinois to locate any possible water main breaks. To-date, no water main breaks have been discovered in the LCPW systems. Bacteriological samples were collected and analyzed in the LCPW systems and so far, there are no signs of water quality impairment. Follow up testing will be performed after the issue is resolved.

The precautionary boil order will remain in effect. At this time, there is no timetable on when the precautionary boil order will be lifted. Learn more.

Precautionary Boil Order - Things to Know

Boil Order

A precautionary boil order was issued for this area because the water pressure dropped below 20 psi. When a boil order is issued, it's very important to take certain measures to protect you and your family from consuming water that could be potentially contaminated:

  • Boil your water at least FIVE minutes before using it
  • Utilize bottled or boiled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation
  • The affected tap water may be used for bathing and/or showering
  • The affected water may be used for household cleaning
