Voting Place Etiquette

Smiley Face

Lake County relies on nearly 1000 residents to be Election Judges on Election Day and at the 18 Early Voting Sites. These individuals may be your relatives, neighbors, colleagues, fellow PTA parents. Some are even high school students.

We ask that you treat them politely and with respect.

If you are under time constraints, use our site locator map to see an estimate of the wait time. Historically, during Early Voting, weekdays between 10-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. are the slowest times.

Outside the polling place, you may be approached by individuals associated with political parties, campaigns, or groups supporting or opposing a referenda. Electioneering (or the promotion of a candidate or public question) is not permitted within the "Election-Free Zone" or 100 feet from the entrance to the room where voting occurs. Some examples of prohibited items include campaign signs, clothing, or buttons promoting a candidate or public question.

Voter intimidation is unlawful and should be reported to the Clerk's Office at 847.377.VOTE or the State Board of Elections at 217.782.4141, by emailing scamalert@elections.il.gov or filling out the reporting form on their website, elections.il.gov.
