Lakes Region Sanitary District Dissolution Complete
On Sept. 13, the Lake County Board approved a resolution that officially closed the Lakes Region Sanitary District. In 2019, Lake County announced the consolidation that allowed LCPW to assume the operations and maintenance of the District while transferring more than 6,000 customers, 20 lift stations, 82 miles of sewer pipe, and 2,060 manholes to LCPW.
With the Lakes Region Sanitary District consolidation complete, the District Tax Levy has been eliminated which will collectively save taxpayers that own property within the District boundaries approximately $1.25 million annually. Before consolidation, the District served portions of Fox Lake, Lake Villa, Volo, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach and unincorporated areas near those communities since the 1970s.

PFAS and Your Water Supply
You may have seen in the news information about emerging contaminants with the acronym "PFAS" that have been found in water throughout the country. “PFAS” is an abbreviation that stands for per – and polyfluoralkyl substances. These are a family of approximately 5,000 human-made chemicals dating back to the 1940s.
Lake County is closely monitoring the latest developments at a national level, and will continue to follow recommendations from the US EPA. LCPW's #1 commitment is ensuring water is safe to drink and use.
To ensure you have the latest information, we created a dedicated web page that answers frequently asked questions related to PFAS. Learn more

Capital Improvements Project Spotlights
Lake County Public Works has had a busy construction season working on projects that will preserve, modernize and expand the water and wastewater systems for years to come. A few highlights include:
IL 83 Force Main Realignment Crews have been realigning sanitary sewer force main to modernize piping near the intersection of IL 83 and Heather Knoll Court in the Long Grove area. The new vault is so big that it had to be installed by a crane! Construction is anticipated to be completed this fall.

Lincolnshire/Vernon Hills Water System Interconnection Lake County and Lincolnshire worked on a project this year that has made our water systems more resilient during emergencies. This entailed constructing an interconnection on IL 21 in front of Apple Orchard Square between Lake County’s Vernon Hills water system and the Village of Lincolnshire’s water system. The interconnection can be opened at anytime to allow for water provisions in case of an emergency where either system lost water. Kudos to our friends at the Village of Lincolnshire that worked with us on this project. Construction is completed and the restoration of the grass area is anticipated to be completed this fall.

Oak Terrace Water System Replacement The existing water system for the Oak Terrace Subdivision and West Oak Middle School in unincorporated Mundelein/Long Grove is undergoing a two-phase upgrade. The first phase was substantially completed this summer, with the installation of new water main pipes and a test well. The next phase will include the construction of a well house on the West Oak Middle School property and the interconnection of the system.
