Statement from Lake County Board Chair and Local County Board Members on Highland Park Shooting Incident
Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart issued the following statement, “I am without words to respond to, yet again, another act of senseless violence, that this time has occurred right here in Lake County. My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones, the Highland Park community, and its leadership, and to those who responded today and continue to do so, to this horrific event. Lake County and our partnering agencies stand with and beside you through it all to provide the support that is needed.”
Paul Frank, District 11 Lake County Board member whose district covers most of Highland Park, issued this statement, “We are all horrified by this inhumane violence. This parade is a family event and supposed to be a celebration. Today our community is mourning and in shock. I pray for the victims; their families and that our country will find the strength to protect our safety. I'm grateful for the offers of support from all our community leaders and fellow county board members who have reached out.”
Paras Parekh, District 12 Lake County Board member whose district covers a portion of Highland Park, also issued the following statement, “I am so deeply saddened by today’s events. Our parade is about family, community, and country. Our community is in shock and our hearts are heavy for those that lost their lives or were severely injured due to another incident in this epidemic of senseless gun violence. We pray for our community, the first responders and the victims.”
The Lake County Emergency Management Agency (LCEMA) is currently staffing the Emergency Operations Center. They are actively monitoring and responding to requests for assistance from our local partners as needed. In addition, they are coordinating with other area EMAs and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).
The Lake County Major Crime Task Force, Highland Park Police, and FBI are leading the investigation into the incident. As of the 3 p.m. press briefing, six individuals have been confirmed deceased. Approximately two-dozen more were injured in the gunfire and have been transported to area hospitals with varying conditions.
A reminder, the incident remains very active, as the offender remains at large.
Everyone in the Highland Park area is asked to report any suspicious activity by calling 911, or Highland Park Police at 847-432-7730. To report any delayed information about this incident, including video, photos or surveillance footage, the FBI has established a tip line at 800-CALL-FBI.
