FERA Program Application Deadline is June 30, 2022
The Lake County Federal Emergency Rental Assistance (FERA) Program which provides rent and utility assistance for eligible households financially impacted by COVID-19 is ending. After 15 months of receiving applications, the US Treasury funding for the FERA program is nearly spent. The online application portal for emergency rental assistance will close on June 30, 2022.
Lake County will be pivoting to a new program, launching in fall 2022. More information on the new program will be available later this summer.
Individuals may continue to apply for the FERA program through June 30. To qualify, applicants must pay rent in Lake County, have a COVID-related financial hardship such as job loss, furlough, reduced hours due to school closures, unexpected medical or other expenses, must be at risk of homelessness or housing instability, and must have a qualifying current annual household income.
Providers will continue to process all submitted applications until all FERA funds have been exhausted. Please note that your application does not guarantee assistance. Residents of Lake County are encouraged to call 211 if they need assistance for information about human services within Lake County.
Through the FERA program, Lake County received $36.9 million provided by the federal government to help pay their rent and utility bills and enable them to stay in their homes. Receiving over 8,500 applications, Lake County’s dedicated team has processed submissions and utilized the program’s criteria to assist residents who are struggling from financial hardship due to COVID-19.
