Provide Your Input on Local Hazard Preparedness at Upcoming Community Meeting
Lake County and the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) are hosting a public meeting on April 19 at 6 p.m. to gather input from residents on the greatest hazard preparedness needs in the community.
The meeting is part of an effort to update Lake County's All Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan (ANHMP), which was created in 2006 to identify activities and projects to reduce the damage caused by natural hazards such as tornadoes, floods and severe storms. At the meeting, attendees will learn more about hazard mitigation and the ANHMP and how to protect their homes from natural hazards.
The public is invited to join the meeting in-person and virtually via Zoom.

Your participation in this meeting is not only welcomed but critical in assisting us update our plan as we work together to reduce or prevent loss of life and property in the event of a disaster. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) requires communities to develop and adopt a FEMA-approved ANHMP in order to be eligible for hazard mitigation grant funds. The ANHMP is required to be updated and re-adopted every five years to maintain grant eligibility.
This plan has helped Lake County remain eligible for millions of dollars in grant funds thus enabling the community to mitigate natural hazards, especially flooding. Mitigation is essential because there are an increasing number of flood events, escalating costs for response and recovery, and repetitive loss from those events in Lake County.
