Underserved populations are targeted by predatory lenders, such as auto title lenders and payday lenders. In many cases, these loans carry high fees and interest rates, strip the borrower of equity, or place a creditworthy borrower in a lower credit-rated (and more expensive) loan.
As part of the Treasurer's Fiscally Fit financial literacy series, the "You Can Bank On It (Banking Basics)" class is designed to help consumers avoid predatory lending by building a positive relationship with a financial institution. Registrants will learn about banking basics, including financial products and services and basic steps for opening and managing checking and savings accounts.
Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim will be hosting the online session via Zoom with Illinois State Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza on Tuesday, March 29th from 11am to 12pm.
