FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Waukegan, Illinois
In accordance with Nineteenth Judicial Circuit’s Administrative Order 2009-40 and pursuant to 730 ILCS 5/5-5-10; 730 ILCS 5-5-6-3; 730 ILCS 5/5-6-3.1, a Crime Victim’s Services Fund was created. The Crime Victims Services Fund Committee, comprised of judges, probation employees and court staff, administers this program for the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit. The Circuit began collecting the $2 fee in 2010 and has now collected sufficient funds to make meaningful contributions to victims’ services programs. Funds may be used to create new programming, enhance an agency’s current programming, purchase one-time capital items, or be applied toward larger capital projects.
Grant funding is available to non-profit organizations with a 501(c)3 status, local government agencies, and agencies providing services to the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit. A maximum annual individual grant amount will not exceed $50,000. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis and must be approved by the Chief Judge upon recommendation of the Committee. The number of grants and amounts awarded will be subject to available funding.
“A portion of the fees paid by probationers are added to The Crime Victims’ Services Fund. This money is now available for disbursement to service providers who assist victims in Lake County. While justice is served within the confines of the courtroom, the victims of these crimes have not always had their needs and concerns met. These individuals require support, and with this funding, local agencies will have the ability to request resources to sustain existing programs or implement new services for the victims of crime,” said Chief Judge Mark L. Levitt.
Acceptance of the submitted application does not obligate the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court to fund the application, nor does it guarantee that the application is complete as submitted. If awarded, it is preferred that grant funding is on a reimbursement basis. Requests for initial lump sum funding must be considered and approved by the Committee.
