Under state law, every 10 years all Illinois counties are required to use Census data to go through a redistricting process--known as reapportionment--to ensure that each district includes approximately the same number of residents. Reapportionment consists of redrawing district boundary lines based on the decennial census.
The community is invited to view a newly proposed 19-member Lake County Board district map and provide comments online through Nov. 24, 2021. The online map is interactive, allowing the public to zoom in on specific areas. The public may also call the Lake County Communications Division telephone line at 847-377-2550 to provide their input by leaving a message.
For those without internet access, the proposed map is available for viewing at:
- Lake County Building, 18 N. County St., Waukegan
- Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 W. Winchester Rd, Libertyville
- Lake County Forest Preserves General Offices, 1899 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville
"Resident input is an important part of this year's reapportionment process," said Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart. "We held four virtual public listening sessions and met with interested groups earlier this year to get feedback. We encourage everyone to view the proposed new map and provide comments."
In February 2021, the County Board created a committee to recommend a reapportionment plan for Lake County, as every 10 years, counties may make changes to the government structure. In October, the Lake County Board approved reducing the amount of County Member Districts from 21 to 19, which will go into effect in December 2022.
The Lake County Reapportionment Committee will convene on Nov. 30 to discuss the proposed map and review public comments. State law requires that the County Board approve an updated district boundary map no later than Dec. 31, 2021.
