The Illinois Tollway is preparing to reopen the new Stearns School Road Bridge over the Tri-State Tollway (I-94) ahead of schedule and plans to reopen the local crossroad bridge to traffic this afternoon, Friday, Sept. 3.
The bridge was closed to traffic on March 1 for removal and reconstruction. As part of the project, the existing two-lane bridge carrying traffic over the Tollway was removed and replaced with a new, wider bridge structure to accommodate vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists traveling over I-94.
The Illinois Tollway, Village of Gurnee and Lake County Division of Transportation worked in coordination to replace the 70-year-old Stearns School Road Bridge. For more information about the project, read the Tollway's news release.
