We are pleased to announce that Brian Frank has been promoted to Chief Engineer for the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC)!
A Lake County resident since 2012, Brian has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Northern Illinois University. He joined the Lake County team as a Senior Engineer with the Planning, Building and Development Department in March 2014 and was quickly promoted to Principal Engineer, a position he held until October 2020 when he moved to the SMC team.
As a principal engineer, Brian was responsible for many important tasks such as reviewing and inspecting all of the commercial and subdivision development within unincorporated Lake County. Being an engineer for Lake County allows him to help fulfill the County’s Stormwater Ordinance, which was put in place, to protect, conserve and promote the orderly development of land and water resources. This position allowed Brian to develop strong relationships with many residents, government officials and business owners.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the experiences I've had with Lake County. My work has allowed me to gain a very diverse skill set, valuable knowledge of engineering in Lake County, and I continue to learn and grow from the many partnerships I’ve been involved in," said Brian.
In his new position as chief engineer, Brian will be responsible for the regulatory permit process, flood damage reduction projects, wetland projects, technical assistance, capital improvement design and construction services, and drainage problem resolution along with ordinance updates.
Brian enjoys working for Lake County and being a member of the SMC family. Brian said, "One of the best parts of my job is working with all the communities that make up Lake County, the residents, municipalities, townships, and many others. My goal is to learn from what has worked in the past and find ways to improve on our process, taking advantage of all the technology at our disposal. I have worked as a Civil Engineer for over 16 years and every year, every day brings on a new challenge and I enjoy taking on those challenges – opportunities from improvement!"
Brian will spend the next few weeks acclimating to his new role, which took effect on June 24, 2021. We sincerely congratulate him and are excited to see where the future will take us.
