Teens and Families Invited to Get Their COVID-19 Vaccine on ‘School Spirit Day’

Giveaways, raffles, music, and free Kona Ice for those getting vaccinated

Lake County, Ill. — The Lake County Health Department invites youth ages 12 and older and their families to get their COVID-19 vaccine at School Spirit Day, held Sunday, May 23, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Lake County Fairgrounds, located at 1060 E. Peterson Rd., Grayslake. There will be free giveaways, raffles, music from Lake County’s 102.3 XLC, and free Kona Ice for anyone receiving their vaccine during the day. Show your school spirit by wearing school colors, athletic uniforms, or even prom attire for extra chances at raffle prizes.

“This is a fun day for our teens and their families to get started on their COVID-19 vaccinations before summer,” said Mark Pfister, Executive Director at the Lake County Health Department. “Teens and young adults now represent the majority of new cases of COVID-19 in Lake County. Getting vaccinated is the best way to keep yourself from getting COVID-19 and spreading it to others.”

Appointments for School Spirit Day at the Lake County Fairgrounds can be scheduled through the AllVax Portal, https://AllVax.lakecohealth.org, and walk-ins will be accepted while supplies last. The vaccine is free to all, regardless of insurance or immigration status.

Pfizer vaccine will be given to ages 12-17 and other household members, and Moderna vaccine will be given to those ages 18 and older. Minors under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. People returning for their second dose of the vaccine will receive the same brand as their first dose and should bring their vaccination card with them.

As of May 16, 2021, 243,880 Lake County residents, or 34.8% of the population, have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Over 80% of seniors ages 65 and older and 52% of those ages 16–64 have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
