Lake County Fairgrounds Vaccination Site Begins Walk-In Service May 1

Appointments are encouraged, but afternoon walk-ins are welcome

Lake County, Ill. — The Lake County Health Department is pleased to announce that starting Saturday, May 1, 2021, the Lake County Fairgrounds (1060 E. Peterson Rd., Grayslake) will offer walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons.

Walk-in hours at the Lake County Fairgrounds are as follows:

  • Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays: Noon to 3 p.m.
  • Wednesdays: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Anyone ages 16 and older who lives in the State of Illinois or works in Lake County can get a free COVID-19 vaccine at a Lake County Health Department site. Minors ages 16-17 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive their vaccine. The Lake County Health Department provides COVID-19 vaccines at no cost and does not bill health insurance. You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to get vaccinated.

“We have finally reached the point of having sufficient vaccine supply in Lake County,” said Mark Pfister, Executive Director of the Lake County Health Department. “If you have an opening in your afternoon, stop by the Fairgrounds, bring along your family, and get your shots. If you’re hoping for a more normal summer, don’t delay—the sooner we all get vaccinated, the sooner we can get back to doing the things we enjoy.”

Walk-in availability is based on the number of vaccine doses available and the number of people walking in each day. Should no walk-in openings be available, staff on-site can assist you in registering and scheduling an appointment for a later date. Scheduling an appointment through AllVax guarantees you a vaccine and appointment time. It also saves you time when you arrive to the vaccination site.

If you would prefer having an assigned time for your shot, register for your COVID-19 vaccine and schedule your appointment on the Lake County AllVax Portal, https://AllVax.lakecohealth.org or by calling (847) 377-8130. Currently, AllVax appointments are available at the Lake County Fairgrounds and the Regional Vaccination Site at 102 W. Water Street, Waukegan.

Thousands of appointments are also available at community vaccination sites listed at www.lakecountyil.gov/vaccine and on the State of Illinois Vaccine Locator. Check with your healthcare provider for vaccine availability as well, or to discuss any concerns you have about getting the vaccine.
