Illinois law requires the county board chair, with the advice and consent of the county board, to appoint a qualified individual to fill a vacancy on the county board within 60 days. Per state law, the appointee must be of the same political party as the seat's predecessor. Accordingly, the chair was required to appoint a Republican. Following Taylor's resignation, Hart established an advisory committee comprised of Lake County Vice Chair Mary Ross-Cunningham, Lake County Board Members Ann Maine and Linda Pedersen, and Lake County Republican Party Chair Mark Shaw, which reviewed several applications and recommended Sbarra for the appointment. "I am pleased to recommend Catherine Sbarra to fill the vacant seat in District 19," Hart said. "During the interview process, she demonstrated a clear commitment to using her time and talent to give back to the community. I am confident that she will faithfully serve the interests of her constituents and that she will be an asset to our board." Sbarra will serve until the next general election, Nov. 8, 2022. As part of her appointment, Sbarra will serve as a member of the Legislative Committee, Ethics & Oversight Committee, and as a member of the Stormwater Management Commission. "I am honored and very blessed to be able to serve the residents of District 19," said Sbarra. ### Contact
