On Thursday, March 25, a culvert under Stearns School Road at Mill Creek approximately 1300 feet east of Hutchins Road was found to be failing. For everyone's safety, the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) has closed Stearns School Road to through traffic from Hutchins Road to Hunt Club Road. A signed detour will be in place until the repair is complete.
The culvert failure was found today during a routine road inspection by LCDOT maintenance personnel. This culvert is aging, and was scheduled for replacement in 2023.
The road will be closed until the repair is complete. Stearns School Road is also closed at the bridge over I-94 for the bridge project the Illinois Tollway is currently working on. At this time, it is hard to estimate the length of time needed for the emergency closure, but LCDOT will work as quickly as possible to complete the necessary repairs and to get this section of the road re-opened.
