Lake County Responds to Georgia Shooting
Lake County has issued the following statement in response to the shooting incident earlier this week in Georgia, where eight lives were tragically lost:
"We send peace and strength to the families and loved ones of all the victims of this senseless hate crime," said Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart. "We will work every day to honor the great diversity of Lake County and ensure that every one of our residents is protected and safe and that our community is one of inclusivity."
In their commitment to embrace diversity, the Lake County Board approved a resolution in January 2020 that condemns any verbal or non-verbal attacks, harassment, or intimidation based on race, ethnicity, color, immigration or refugee status, religion or creed, gender of sexual orientation, age, mental or physical disability, veteran status, or other social identities, as well as discourse that disrespects or degrades people's identities, needs and beliefs.
"Over 56,000 Asian-Americans are living here in Lake County and are an integral part of the fabric of this community," said Lake County Board Member Paras Parekh. "Together with all members of the community we must condemn these tragic and intolerable acts, and bring more awareness to the continuing violence, harassment, and bias against Asian-Americans."
"We are horrified by this week's murders in the Atlanta area. The increase in anti-Asian attacks have been fueled by xenophobic and racist misinformation. We stand together against hate and violence everywhere" said Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim.
Lake County government stands against hate and discrimination and affirms that Lake County should be a welcoming place for all.
