Lake County Announces Art in Public Places Program
Lake County Government is pleased to announce a new Art in Public Places Program in partnership with local artists and galleries. Throughout the year, artwork created by local artists will be exhibited in the county's main administration building, located at 18 N. County Street, in downtown Waukegan.
The first exhibit opened March 15, 2021 and is a celebration of Women's History Month. Six local, female artists are presenting I Connect: Women Artists of Lake County.
"This collection of work explores connections to ourselves, our environments, and each other through the artists' various social, generational, and cultural lenses. As women, our awareness of "connection" is heightened during this time of collective isolation," said local artist and exhibit curator Katrina Davis-Salazar. "Through their chosen mediums and styles, these female artists consider defined and nebulous relationships and how we go about seeking and maintaining these connections. Aware of the healing nature of art, this positive theme was chosen to uplift those who walk through this space, during this challenging time."
Lake County artists include Kate Knutson, Aruna Sarode, Michelle Patch, Maricarmen Pizano, Lauren Marsh, and Katrina Davis-Salazar. Michelle Patch and Katrina Davis-Salazar curated the exhibit.
The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and will be on display through the end of April. Parking is available in the attached parking garage and is free for the first two hours. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing guidelines are currently required for all who enter Lake County government buildings.
