Virtual Public Hearings on Adult-Use Cannabis Businesses in Unincorporated Lake County
The Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) invites the public to provide input as it considers proposed zoning amendments that would permit adult-use cannabis businesses in unincorporated Lake County subject to certain restrictions. All interested residents are invited to attend one or both virtual public hearings on the issue scheduled for Monday, April 19 at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday, April 21 at 1 p.m. Should additional time be needed for consideration of the topic, the continuation date and time will be announced at the conclusion of the April 21 hearing.
Residents are also encouraged to visit Lake County's new adult-use cannabis web page to learn more about the issue, including proposed zoning amendments and maps. The page also provides a way for the public to submit input, questions and concerns directly to the County's project team.
The Lake County Board adopted a resolution on Feb. 9 to initiate the ZBA public hearing process. While adult-use of cannabis has been legal in Illinois since Jan. 1, 2020, business establishments are currently prohibited to operate in unincorporated Lake County. Under Illinois law, Lake County government has the option to establish regulations to allow or ban adult-use cannabis businesses in the unincorporated areas.
The public hearings will be conducted by video/audio conference on Zoom, beginning with a presentation followed by public comment and ZBA member discussion. Registration is required.
1st Public Hearing Date Date: Monday, April 19, 2021 Time: 5:30 p.m.
2nd Public Hearing Date Date: Wednesday, April 21, 2021 Time: 1 p.m.
The virtual public hearing will be accessible to individuals with disabilities or lack of internet access. Anyone needing special assistance and planning to attend should contact the Lake County Planning, Building and Development department at 847-377-2600 or via email by April 14.
