Lake County, Waukegan, and Beach Park Work Together to Dissolve Drainage District
Lake County Government, the Village of Beach Park, and the City of Waukegan have worked together and agreed to dissolve the Beach Park Drainage District, effective immediately.
“The dissolution of this district will lead to a more efficient delivery of the district’s duties in managing flooding and stormwater in Lake County communities, while providing a cost savings to residents,” said Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart. “We look forward to working with more municipalities to create future opportunities to consolidate outdated districts while providing more efficient and effective services to our communities.”
Going forward, the Village of Beach Park will continue to support the parcels in their municipal limits, and the City of Waukegan will continue to support the parcels in their municipal limits. Residents who encounter property drainage issues should contact their local municipality for assistance:
- Village of Beach Park: 847-746-1770
- City of Waukegan Public Works: 847-360-0944
- Unincorporated Lake County: 847-377-2600
“I am pleased that the City of Waukegan, Village of Beach Park and Lake County officials delivered on the bipartisan promise to eliminate outdated layers of government,” said Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham. “Our residents can be proud that their leaders have worked together to streamline these functions by consolidating this redundant unit of government, while still maintaining the expected level of excellent service.”
John Hucker, the Mayor of Beach Park, echoed the others and added “The Village of Beach Park would like to thank those who served the Beach Park Drainage District for so many years. We look forward to the opportunity to provide outstanding customer service at reduced cost to our residents and businesses.”
The City of Waukegan and the Village of Beach Park will eliminate any annual Drainage District tax assessments on properties within the former District. Residents will no longer see this item on their tax bill.
Residents seeking more information on the dissolution of the Beach Park Drainage District should call the Lake County Administrator’s Office at 847-377-2250.
