Election Judge Availability and Training

Want to Help your Community and Earn Extra Money?

Lake County Clerk Robin O’Connor suggests you sign up to be an election worker for the November 3, 2020 General Election. Most importantly, your help is needed to maintain the integrity of the voting process.

While working in the county's voting sites, your responsibilities could include verifying voters’ identity, issuing ballots, or observing the ballot bins. Some roles would require your assistance in setting up the voting site on election eve. Pay rates vary according to the level of training you successfully complete and your assigned duties.

Explore requirements, responsibilities, and pay rates by visiting ElectionJudge.info, calling 847-377-2408, or e-mailing electionjudge@lakecountyil.gov with your name and contact information.

Vote from the Comfort and Safety of Home

Due to COVID-19, we are encouraging all voters to vote by mail and avoid lines during Early Voting or on Election Day.  Feel safe when voting from the comfort of your own home.

Visit Voting by Mail in November for details and application forms.

Vote by mail

In compliance with Illinois Public Act 101-0642, our office was required to mail on August 1 a vote by mail Application for Ballot to all Lake County residents who:

  • voted by mail, during early voting, or on Election Day in the March 2020 General Primary Election, April 2019 Consolidated Election, or the November 2018 General Election, or

  • registered to vote or updated their address between March 18, 2020 and July 31, 2020.

Vote by Mail FAQ's

Why did I get more than one application?

In addition to our mandated mailing, there were civic organizations who also mailed out applications as a courtesy.

If I complete multiple forms, will I get more than one ballot?

Only one ballot will be mailed to each validated voter. All ballot applications are returned to the Lake County Clerk’s office where election judges will verify the voter's identity by matching the voter’s application signature against the signature on his/her voter registration record.

If you have already submitted an application and get another one in the mail, you can discard the second application. If you want to vote in person, you may ignore all applications you might receive.

Did the clerk's office receive my application?

You can track our receipt of your application by logging onto LakeVoterPower.info and selecting "Track my Ballot." We have many applications to open and verify. So, if you don't see yours listed, check back a bit later.

How do I get an application if I have not received one?

Registered voters can log onto LakeVoterPower.info and choose to complete an electronic version or download a paper application. If you wish to have a paper application mailed to you, call 847-377-VOTE or email your name, address, and date of birth to votingbymail@lakecountyil.gov.

Am I required to vote by mail?

You do not have to vote by mail. Early Voting and Election Day voting sites will be open for in-person voting.

Can I vote in person after receiving a ballot in the mail?

If you choose to vote in person after receiving a ballot in the mail, you should bring the ballot with you to the voting site. Election judges will have you surrender the mailed ballot and issue a new one in the voting site.

When do ballots get mailed?

Ballots will be mailed beginning September 24. The last day we can accept your ballot application or mail a ballot to you is Thursday, October 29.

Do vote by mail ballots get counted?

Yes. Vote by mail ballots already received by Election Day will be tabulated on election night after the polls close at 7 PM. Those tallies will be posted on our Election Results web page.

In Illinois, election results are not final for 14 days, and this allows for still-arriving valid mailed ballots postmarked by Election Day. These valid votes will be posted online on the 14th day post-election.

Will there be drop boxes to return my voted ballot?

Yes. We are working through the details for postage-free drop box locations and will distribute information through the media, on our website, in future e-newsletters, and on social media when specifics are finalized.

If you have vote by mail questions, you can call 847 377-VOTE, email votingbymail@lakecountyil.gov, or visit our Vote by Mail information web page for more information.
