$30 Million Now Committed to COVID-19 Recovery by Lake County Board
At its July 14 meeting, the Lake County Board approved the allocation of $11 million in funding through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to support local agencies impacted by COVID-19. Adding to the funding allocated last month, the County Board has now committed a total of $30 million to help the community accelerate through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funding approved July 14 was passed through two separate resolutions:
"Lake County has been working hard to ensure that the community has access to the resources they need to help get them through the COVID-19 pandemic," said Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart. "I thank all the Lake County employees, the Special Committee on COVID-19 Recovery, and the Lake County Board for their tireless work to set up programs that are helping residents, businesses, and other community partners."
In May, the County Board established a special committee focused on COVID-19 recovery and relief. The committee has been providing guidance and strategic priorities to the County Administrator for the planning and execution of the federal funds provided to Lake County under the CARES Act. As of July 14, approved recommendations from the committee for CARES Act funding are to be directed toward the following programs:
-
$10 million Small Business Assistance
- $10 million Municipality and Fire Protection District Reimbursement
-
$4 million Rental Assistance
-
$2 million Food Insecurity
- $1 million Utility Assistance
- $1 million Safety Kits for Community
-
$2 million Lake County COVID-19 Expenses
