Health Department Coronavirus Update

Lake County, Ill. — The Lake County Health Department is reporting 269 additional cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and two new deaths in Lake County since yesterday. This brings the total number of Lake County COVID-19 cases to 4,668 including 157 deaths (as of May 6, 2020, 1:15 p.m.).

The two new deaths are all among residents with underlying health conditions, a risk factor for severe illness from COVID-19, and include:

  • Female in her 90s
  • Female in her 80s

The Health Department is investigating 36 long-term care facilities in the county that have two or more positive cases. These 36 facilities have a combined total of 705 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 104 deaths.

Data which can be found in the Lake County COVID-19 Data Hub shows over 1,400 people in their 20s and 30s have tested positive for COVID-19.  Younger people need to take this pandemic just as seriously as our older population.

"The data is very clear, anyone at any age can contract the novel coronavirus COVID-19,” said Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister. "We have to keep working together, and follow mitigation guidance if we want to slow the spread of COVID-19.  Whether you are 25 or 65, you can contract COVID-19, so everyone needs to take precautions."
