Health Department Coronavirus Update

Lake County, Ill. — The Lake County Health Department is reporting 191 additional cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and four new deaths in Lake County since yesterday. This brings the total number of Lake County COVID-19 cases to 3,621 including 127 deaths (as of April 30, 2020, 1:45 p.m.).

The four new deaths are all among residents with underlying health conditions, a risk factor for severe illness from COVID-19, and include:

  • One man and one woman in their 60s
  • One woman in her 80s
  • One woman in her 90s

The Health Department is investigating 33 long-term care facilities in the county that have two or more positive cases. These 33 facilities have a combined total of 567 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 83 deaths.

"Tomorrow, changes to the Governor's stay at home order will take effect, more businesses will be considered essential, and non-essential businesses will be able to re-open to fulfill phone and online orders for curbside pick-up and delivery,” said Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister. "We offer our support to our essential workersif you are working during this time, please take precautions to avoid being infected with COVID-19 so you don’t bring the virus back to your household. Please visit the Health Department website for guidance on how to protect yourself, how to make and use cloth face coverings, and for information on what to do if someone in your workplace tests positive for COVID-19."

Anyone with concerns about safety in their workplace because their employer is not following social distancing guidelines can contact the Attorney General's Workplace Rights Bureau at (844) 740-5076 or through emailworkplacerights@atg.state.il.us to file a complaint.
