Health Department Coronavirus Update

Lake County, Ill. — The Lake County Health Department is reporting 55 additional cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and four new deaths in Lake County. This brings the total number of Lake County COVID-19 cases to 1,776 including 69 deaths (as of April 16, 2020, 1:00 p.m.).

The four new deaths reported are all among residents who had underlying health conditions, a risk factor for severe illness from COVID-19, including:

  • One man in his 80s
  • Two men in their 90s
  • One woman in her 90s

The Health Department is investigating 24 long-term care facilities in the county that have two or more positive cases. These 24 facilities have a combined total of 321 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Lake County is pleased to announce the launch of its ‘Stay Home, Save Lives’ campaign today, covering the basics of COVID-19, social distancing, and the importance of staying at home to protect yourself and others.

"Communications staff members from every Lake County Government department have been working together over the past month to keep our residents informed during the COVID-19 crisis," said Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister. "We ask our residents, businesses, and community partners across Lake County to help share these important messages during this challenging time to help slow the spread of this disease.”

The campaign toolkit is available at www.lakecountyil.gov/stayhomesavelives and contains a wealth of information in English and Spanish, including:

  • Social Media Messaging and Graphics
  • Public Service Announcements
