National Crime Victims' Rights Week Event
April 19-25, 2020
(Lake County, IL) Please join the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office online in recognizing National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 19-25, 2020.
Every April, the Office for the Victims of Crime helps lead communities throughout the country in their annual observances of National Crime Victim's Right's Week. It will observed in 2020 from April 19 through April 25. This year's theme is Seek Justice/Ensure Victims' Rights/Inspire Hope.
The Lake County State's Attorney's Office has received federal funding to promote community awareness of crime victims’ rights and services during 2020 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (April 19-25, 2020).
The funding will be used to host a National Crime Victims' Rights Week event online April 19 through April 25, 2020. There is no cost to attend the event. The event will include resources for victims and an inspirational speaker, Juan Ortiz. The presentation and resource materials will be provided in English and Spanish. Please join the event on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/LCSTATESATTORNEY.
The funding comes from the U. S. Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) through the National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA).
First designated by President Ronald Reagan in 1981, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week increases general public awareness of, and knowledge about the wide range of rights and services available to people who have been victimized by crime. The theme for 2020 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is “Seek Justice. Ensure Victims’ Rights. Inspire Hope.”
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office is determined to respond to crime and violence by helping victims find not only support, recovery, and justice, but also a sense of hope for their future.
“The support from OVC and NAVAA for our 2020 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week activities will help us help crime victims” said Lake County State's Attorney Michael G. Nerheim. “We are dedicated to strengthening victims and survivors in the aftermath of crime, building resilience in our communities and our victim service providers and bringing hope and healing to all victims and survivors.”
Members of our community are encouraged to honor the past achievements of programs that aid crime victims and survivors, and join us in creating hope for a future where all crime survivors are treated with dignity and respect, and receive the services they need and deserve.
Since 2004, OVC’s NCVRW Community Awareness Project has provided financial and technical assistance to more than 1,000 community projects that promote victim and public awareness activities, and innovative approaches to victim/survivor outreach and public education about victims’ rights and services during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The Lake County State's Attorney's Office was one of the 109 projects recommended by NAVAA and selected for funding by OVC for 2020 from the 262 applications that were submitted nationwide.
