Lake County, Ill. — The Lake County Health Department is reporting 282 additional cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and 16 new deaths in Lake County since Friday. This brings the total number of Lake County COVID-19 cases to 1,525, including 50 deaths (as of April 13, 2020, 1:30 p.m.).

The 16 new deaths reported all had underlying medical conditions, a risk factor for severe illness from COVID-19, and include:

  • Six men in their 60s
  • Two men in their 70s
  • One woman in her 70s
  • Two men in their 80s
  • Four women in their 80s
  • One man in his 90s

The Health Department is investigating 22 long-term care facilities in the county that have two or more positive cases. These 22 facilities have a combined total of 238 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The Health Department continues to work closely with these long-term health facilities to assure that necessary infection control measures are taken.

"The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads mainly through respiratory droplets shared by coughing, sneezing, and talking when you’re in close proximity to another person," said Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister. “We ask residents to stay the course with social distancing. We all have to do our part to stop the spread of this illness. Stay home, save lives."
