Buffalo Grove Road Reconstruction - 5 Things to Know
Construction is expected to kick off soon on a two-year project to reconstruct a 1.85 mile stretch on Buffalo Grove Road from Deerfield Parkway to IL 22 and the intersection at Buffalo Grove and Aptakisic Road. In an effort to keep you informed about this project, we compiled five things you should know leading into construction.
1. Why is Buffalo Grove Road getting reconstructed?
The two-lane road was built in the 1980's with a long-term vision to be a five-lane road when needed. The current pavement is at the end of its life and over the past several years, traffic has increased to about 17,000 vehicles daily. By 2040, 21,000 vehicles are projected to travel on this corridor every day. This improvement will ease traffic congestion along this corridor for years to come.
2. Road improvements to expect
Buffalo Grove Road from Deerfield Parkway to IL Route 22 will be completely reconstructed to provide two lanes of travel in each direction. This includes a center median and turn lanes at all major intersections. A new traffic signal also will be installed at the intersection of Thompson Blvd.
Construction will take place over a two-year period using a staged approach.

3. Non-motorized improvements to expect
Crosswalks at each street crossing will be improved and upgraded to ADA standards. Crews will also connect the bike path gap between Aptakisic Road and Brandywyn Lane, making it easier for residents to walk and bike to local parks, schools and shopping areas.
4. Traffic Impacts
No road closures are expected. One lane of traffic will be open in each direction. Temporary lane closures may occur a few hours per day to complete major work. Motorists are urged to drive carefully, watch for flaggers, and be aware of trucks entering and exiting the job site.
