Health Department Coronavirus Update

Lake County, Ill. — The Lake County Health Department is reporting 119 additional cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Lake County and one new death, a woman in her 80s who had underlying health conditions. This brings the total number of Lake County COVID-19 cases to 1,044, including 23 deaths (as of April 8, 2020, 1:15 p.m.).

The Health Department is investigating 20 long-term care facilities in the county that have two or more positive cases. These 20 facilities have a combined total of 150 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

"Our total of confirmed cases in the county exceeded 1,000 today, and we believe that many more residents are infected with COVID-19 who can spread this virus even if they do not have symptoms," said Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister. "As the weather warms up, I encourage you to enjoy some fresh air and exercise for both your physical and mental health. However, we must continue to follow social distancing guidelines. We are fortunate that our Lake County Forest Preserve trails remain open at this time—let’s all do our part to keep them open.”
