The Lake County Health Department continues to work closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health and reminds all residents to take preventative actions to help stop the spread of germs (remember the 3C’s: Clean, Cover, Contain).
CLEAN
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
COVER
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- If no tissue is available, cough or sneeze into your sleeve, not your hands.
CONTAIN
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
