Neighbors,

Barr

I wanted to take this opportunity to share information from the Illinois Department of Public Health and our Lake County Health Department regarding COVID-19 (CoronaVirus).

  • Current risk to Illinoisans remains low, but the state and county Health Departments are taking all steps to prepare just in case.
  • Illinois has had only two confirmed cases of COVID-19. In both cases, the patients recovered.
  • There are no  known COVID-19 infectious Illinois residents at this time.
  • Illinois is the first state to provide COVID-19 testing in-state.
  • There is no vaccine to prevent COVID-19 nor medication to treat COVID-19 at this time.
  • In the absence of a vaccine or medication, Illinois will utilize community mitigation strategies.  Community mitigation aims to slow the spread of a novel virus in communities using NonPharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) better known as "everyday preventive actions" including staying home when sick, covering coughs and sneezes, frequent hand washing, and routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces and objects.

The number one strategy you can use to lower your risk of acquiring or spreading any illness is frequent hand washing and staying away from sick people.

If you are concerned about your health, please visit a doctor or contact our Health Department at 847-377-8000
