WAUKEGAN, Illinois – Before you can receive a ballot and vote in the March 17, 2020 General Primary Election, you must be registered with your current name and Lake County physical street address.

Registered voters can verify their record is up to date by logging Into the Lake County Clerk’s website, LakeVoterPower.info, or calling our Voter Registration Services Department at 847-377-VOTE.

If you need to update your existing record or register for the first time, voter registration is open now and is conveniently available online, in-person, or by mail. The Lake County Clerk’s office maintains all Lake County voter registration records and sends nightly uploads of this information to the Illinois State Board of Elections’ database. 

Upcoming Voter Registration Deadlines

Open until February 18, 2020

Open until February 28, 2020

  • In-person voter registration (Grace Period Registration) is available in the Lake County Clerk's office only beginning February 19 through February 28 on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Open until March 1, 2020

  • In-person voter registration is available at any Illinois Secretary of State Driver’s Facility when you are there for their other services.

  • Online voter registration is offered through the State Board of Elections’ Illinois Online Voter Registration Application Website (https://ova.elections.il.gov). You must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License or State Identification card.

Open until March 16, 2020

Early voting and Grace Period Registration are available at 16 early voting sites beginning March 2 through March 16. You may use any early voting site regardless of where you live in Lake County. The dates and times vary at the different sites as some locations offer evening and weekend hours. (https://www.lakecountyil.gov/4138/March-17-2020-General-Primary-Election)

On March 17, 2020

Election Day Voter Registration is available in the Lobby of the Lake County Main Courthouse or at your neighborhood voting site assigned to serve your home address. Polls are open from 6 PM to 7 PM. (https://www.lakecountyil.gov/4138/March-17-2020-General-Primary-Election)

Voter Registration Requirements

To register, you must be:

  • a United States citizen,
  • a resident of your precinct 30 days before the election,
  • 18 years of age or older on or before the next general election (17-year-olds may register and vote in the March primary if 18th birthday occurs on or before November 3, 2020), and
  • able to provide two pieces of valid identification.
    Both pieces must show your current name, and one must show your current Lake County physical street address.

  • the candidate list;
  • public questions on the ballot;
  • your sample ballot;
  • voter registration locations, forms, and acceptable forms of identification;
  • all 16 early voting sites, times and dates; and
  • your assigned Election Day voting site.
