Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart Seeks Qualified Candidates to Fill District 20 County Board Seat Following Resignation of Board Member Adam Didech

Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart will be seeking qualified candidates to fill the District 20 county board seat being vacated by Adam Didech, who announced Monday he will be resigning from his seat effective Feb. 10, 2020 due to personal health reasons

"I will truly miss serving with Adam," Hart said. "He is a smart, kind, funny and caring person who I know will go on to do great things. I do understand, though, that his health must come first."

According to State Statute (10 ILCS 5/25-11), the Lake County Board Chair shall appoint someone to fill the vacancy within 60 days with the advice and consent of the county board. The appointee would serve until the next general election, Nov. 3, 2020.

State law requires that Hart must appoint an individual who is:

  • At least 18 years old and a “legal voter” with a valid voter registration in Lake County. No individual may serve if their right to vote has been permanently revoked or temporarily revoked during the appointed term of office (10 ILCS 5/2-3015).
  • A resident of Lake County for at least one year preceding the next election (Nov. 3, 2020), and a current resident of District 20, which includes Buffalo Grove, portions of Long Grove and portions of the unincorporated areas of Vernon and Ela Townships.
  • Of the same political party as the seat’s predecessor, when he was elected. Accordingly, the chair is required to appoint a Democrat to this vacancy.

At the Feb. 11 County Board meeting, Chair Hart will request that the County Board approve the creation of an Ad Hoc Chair’s Advisory Committee to assist in the selection process and seek confirmation of appointees to the committee.

Residents of District 20 who are interested in serving on the Lake County Board and meet the criteria are encouraged to submit their resume, letter of interest and any other supporting material they wish to include (such as letters of recommendation) via email to countyboard@lakecountyil.gov, or via U.S. mail to:

Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart
Lake County Board Office, 10th Floor
18 North County St.
Waukegan, IL 60085

The deadline for accepting applications is the close of business on February 19, 2020.
