Cary man pleads not guilty to charges for his role in a crash that killed a McHenry teen

(Lake County, IL) A Cary man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges filed against him for his role in a crash that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old McHenry girl.

Caleb Rohrbach, 18, remains held in Lake County Jail on $1 million bail on charges of DUI and causing an accident that resulted in death, reckless homicide, DUI and causing an accident that resulted in bodily harm, reckless driving and causing an accident that resulted in bodily harm, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rohrbach is facing up to 14 years in prison if found guilty at trial on the charge of DUI and causing a crash that resulted in death.

Rohrbach's preliminary trial date is Jan. 21 in front of Lake County Circuit Court Judge Victoria Rossetti. He is due back in court Oct. 31.

A previous news release issued Sept 3 regarding Rohrbach is attached below.

A Cary man was ordered held on $1 million bail for his involvement in a Route 12 crash that left a 16-year-old McHenry teen dead and three others injured.

Caleb Rohrbach, 18, was ordered to wear a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring (SCRAM) device by Lake County Associate Judge Paul Novak should he be able to post bond and be released from Lake County Jail.

Novak also ordered Rohrbach on 24-hour curfew except when attending treatment or meeting with his attorney. He was also ordered to refrain from consuming any drugs or alcohol, not possess any weapons, and be subject to random drug testing should he be able to post bond.

Rohrbach turned himself in to authorities at noon Tuesday after a $1 million arrest warrant was issued on Aug. 28. He appeared in bond court at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Danielle Thomas, 16, of McHenry, was killed after the vehicle she was driving north on Route 12 near Case Road in Wauconda was struck head-on by a car driven by Rohrbach at about 10:15 p.m. on March 15.

Assistant Lake County State's Attorney Lisa LeBoeuf said in bond court that Rohrbach's vehicle was travelling at over 70 mph and crossed over a grassy median into oncoming traffic.

Thomas was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. Three other teens in her car were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Two of those three suffered major injuries, and the third suffered minor injuries.

Rohrbach is due back in courtroom T-110 at 9 a.m. on Sept. 9.
