Lake County Board Appoints Gary Gibson as Interim County Administrator
Today the Lake County Board appointed Gary Gibson as Interim County Administrator, effective Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019.
Gibson, who retired from Lake County in 2017 after 23 years of service, most recently served as Manager of the Workforce Development Board, overseeing programs designed to ensure Lake County’s workforce has the necessary skills to meet the needs of its employers. During Gibson's tenure, he also served as Assistant County Administrator for 11 years, and was the Interim County Administrator from 2001 to 2002.
Gibson will serve as the Interim County Administrator while the Lake County Board conducts a search for a new County Administrator to replace William T. Panos, whose resignation became effective on Sept. 10, 2019.
“We are pleased to appoint Gary Gibson as Interim County Administrator,” said Lake County Board Chair Sandy Hart. “He had a stellar career in Lake County, and is known and respected by our employees. He is the perfect candidate to lead us during this transition period.”

When he served as an Assistant County Administrator, Gibson participated in the development and implementation of Lake County's strategic plan. He coordinated several state and federal legislative programs on behalf of the Lake County Board, and developed an Affordable Housing Grant Program which provided $300,000 per year to other local governments, not-for-profit organizations and private developers to create affordable housing units throughout Lake County.
While serving as Manager of the Lake County Workforce Development Board, Gibson played a key role in implementing the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act in Lake County.
Gibson joins other team members who have recently been hired for leadership positions in the County Administrator's Office. Last month, James D. Hawkins began work as Deputy County Administrator, and Matthew Meyers was named Assistant County Administrator, a role in which he had served in an interim position since March. The County also announced that Cassandra Torstenson will begin working as Assistant County Administrator later this month. She recently served as the City Administrator for Brainerd, MN.
