FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Waukegan, Illinois

It is with a heavy heart that I report that Circuit Judge Thomas M. Schippers passed away this morning surrounded by his loving family. Judge Schippers was a beloved colleague and dear friend to all of us in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit. He was a man of great faith and a devoted public servant. Tom was a dedicated family man who leaves behind a loving wife, children, and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. Those of us who served with him were inspired by his dedication to the law as well as his loving nature and were incredibly moved by the manner in which he addressed his valiant battle with cancer.

Judge Schippers was appointed as an Associate Judge on March 8, 2007, and elected as Circuit Judge on November 6, 2012, and retained by the voters last November. In addition to private practice, he served as an Assistant Lake County State’s Attorney, an Assistant Illinois Attorney General and as Senior Investigative Counsel for the U. S. House of Representatives. Judge Schippers most recently served as the Presiding Judge of the Lake County Civil Division.

Tom’s keen intellect, sense of humor, guidance and support will be missed, not only by his judicial colleagues, but by the entire Nineteenth Judicial Circuit and the Lake County Legal Community. On behalf of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Carol, and the entire Schippers family.
