The February 26 Primary Election is not a county-wide election. Only voters in the specific City of Waukegan alderman wards 2, 3, 7, and 8 are eligible to cast a ballot. There are only Democratic candidates. No Republican candidates or public questions were certified for the primary election.
Voter Registration
Online voter registration with the Illinois State Board of Elections is available until Feb. 10. You must have an Illinois Driver’s License or state identification card. In-person registration is offered at any Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles facility when you are there for their other services.
Today is the final day to complete Grace Registration at the Lake County Clerk’s Office. From Feb. 11 to 25, the Grace Registration option will be available during early voting at the Lake County Courthouse, 18 N. County St., Waukegan. On Election Day, you must register at the voting site assigned to serve your address. Applicants must present two forms of valid identification. Both must show your current name, and one must show your physical Lake County street address. Voting a ballot is required at the time of registration.
Vote by Mail
Registered voters must submit a required application form by noon on Feb. 21. Returning voted by mail ballots must be postmarked by midnight on Feb. 26.
Vote Early
Today is the final day that individuals can vote early at the Lake County Clerk’s Office. From February 11 to 25, early voting will be open weekdays, evenings, and weekends at the Lake County Main Courthouse in Waukegan. View the dates and hours.
Vote on Election Day
Those choosing to vote on Election Day, Feb. 26 must go to their assigned polling location. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. List of Election Day Voting Sites.

In October, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced a $700,0000 grant to Lake County to continue building on efforts to reform the local criminal justice system and safely reduce the Lake County Jail's population. The grant is part of the Safety and Justice Challenge. In partnership with local organizations and community members, the Sheriff’s Office is leading the comprehensive plan for local justice system reforms with the goal of reducing the average daily jail population by at least 10 percent over the next two years. Some of the key strategies and initiatives to achieve this goal and create a safer, more effective system include:
- Intensive case management to refer services for people involved in the justice system to stop them from cycling in and out of the jail and reduce their recidivism
- Education and training on racial and ethnic disparities in the criminal justice system
- Text reminders to Public Defender’s Office clients to prevent missed court dates and warrants being generated that bring an individual back to jail
There has been a recent increase in reported cases of Hepatitis A virus (HAV) throughout Illinois and in Lake County. Since January 2018, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has confirmed 110 cases of HAV and has identified 35 cases to be part of a statewide outbreak. Attend and meet face-to-face with several of Lake County's government employers on Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Greenbelt Cultural Center in North Chicago. All of the agencies at our job fair have open positions they seek to fill.
Organizations that will be in attendance include the City of Zion, Deerfield Park District, Lake County Forest Preserves, Park District of Highland Park, Village of Buffalo Grove, Village of Lincolnshire, Waukegan Park District, and Waukegan Community Unit School District 60. These organizations are looking to fill full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions in various departments.

Applications for the 2019 Lake County Summer Youth Employment Program are now being accepted through March 31. The program, funded by the Lake County Board, provides meaningful work experiences for participants, who will work at various sites in Lake County, including private employers and nonprofit organizations, local municipalities and community-based organizations. Applicants should be age 14 to 18 (by April 15) or age 14 to 22 with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

Come together in a public statement against global abuse and oppression of women and join Lake County Rising on Feb. 12 at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center.
