Lake County Stormwater Management Commission to Review Proposed Foxconn Development

The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission has entered into a contract with Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. to review the proposed Foxconn development and related adjacent improvements due to concerns of adverse impacts on flooding and water quality along the Des Plaines River in Lake County. The Foxconn site is in the headwaters of the Des Plaines River Watershed, which is immediately upstream of Lake County and encompasses a major source of surface water. Learn more

Second Installment of Property Tax Bills Due Sept. 6

The second installment due date of 2017 Lake County property taxes is approaching. Please note, you received one bill in May, and you will not receive another bill for the second installment. If you misplaced your second installment coupon, print a copy from the Treasurer's Office website by entering your PIN number or address. If you are mailing your payment, be sure to have it U.S. postmarked on or before Sept. 6 to avoid late penalties.

Provide Feedback at Tri-County Access Project Open House

The public is invited to attend an open house regarding the Tri-County Access Project from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 6 at Concorde Banquets in Kildeer. 

The Tri-County Access (TCA) Project, formerly the IL Route 53/120 project, is a comprehensive regional study being conducted by the Illinois Tollway to study how to ease traffic congestion in Lake, northern Cook, and eastern McHenry counties that is environmentally friendly and fiscally responsible. 

Public meetings are being planned to help foster awareness of project developments and alternatives that are being evaluated and to provide a forum for public input, including concerns and comments regarding project alternatives. Learn more


County Receives $32 Million to Fund Transportation Projects

The Lake County Council of Mayors has successfully allocated $32 million of federal Surface Transportation Program funds in 2018 for 10 projects in nine Lake County communities. This includes $25 million for Lake County’s Quentin Road widening improvement, which is currently being constructed in Kildeer and Lake Zurich. These funds were allocated based upon project readiness across the region and represents nearly four years worth of funding under the previous allotments the Council has received.

From Your Mailbox to the Ballot Box

Vote by mail

Lake County residents correctly registered with their current name and address can now complete the required application to request a ballot by mail for the Nov. 6, 2018 election. This is an ideal voting option for snowbirds, students away at school, and those who will be traveling on Election Day as your ballot can be mailed anywhere. Completed applications must be submitted to the Clerk’s Office by noon Nov. 1. According to Illinois state statute, ballots cannot be mailed to the voters until late September.

Irish Days

All eyes will be smiling when the historic shopping district of Long Grove presents Irish Days, a celebration of Irish culture, music, food, and drink. The event is scheduled Sept. 1 to 3. Admission and parking in municipal lots are free. Learn more

Apple Fest

Enjoy bushels of fun at Apple Fest, which will take place Sept. 21 to 23 in historic Long Grove. The 27th annual festival will include apple-inspired treats as well as music and the Kid Zone, headlined by the apple pie-eating contest and interactive activities like ballroom dancing and tug-o-war. Lyons Woods

Trail Extension at Lyons Woods
A newly completed 1.9-mile paved trail now connects Lyons Woods Forest Preserve in Waukegan to the Robert McClory Bike Path and local parks. The Lake County Forest Preserves, City of Waukegan, Waukegan Park District and the Village of Beach Park partnered to create this trail extension. It represents the first phase of a longer 6.9-mile regional trail that will continue west through Waukegan Savanna Forest Preserve and eventually connect to the Des Plaines River Trail at Sedge Meadow Forest Preserve in Wadsworth. Visit Lyons Woods today.

Restoring Craftsbury Preserve

Citizens for Conservation has received a three-to-one grant from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation to help restore Craftsbury Preserve. The land, located southeast of Cuba Road and North Hart Road in Cuba Township, is unique as it contains wetlands, prairie and uplands all within 22 acres. CFC's multi-year restoration plan will address each type of habitat. Learn more
