Environmental Health

As of today, the Health Department has confirmed 13 pools (batches) of mosquitoes and two birds testing positive for West Nile virus, tracking ahead of the seasonal average in Lake County. Summer and Fall are prime times for West Nile virus.

Take action and practice the 4 Ds of Defense: Drain, Defend, Dawn and Dusk, and Dress. If you start to feel achy, nauseated, have a fever, swollen lymph glands or a rash after being bitten by a mosquito, see your primary care provider. Learn more at www.FightTheBiteNow.com.

August 15 is National Check the Chip Day! Unlike collars or tags that can go missing, microchips are a permanent form of ID that stays with your pet. If your pet is already microchipped, have your pet scanned to confirm the information attached to the microchip is accurate and up to date. If your cat or dog needs a microchip, come to Animal Care and Control (18736 Peterson Rd, Libertyville) between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. to have a microchip implanted for $15.
