Things are moving along at the site of the Cedar Lake Road project.
After the traffic switch at the end of June, the contractor began removing the
east side of the road. At the same time, all remaining underground storm sewer
improvements were completed. The east side of the road has been fully excavated
for the stone base that the new road will sit on. Final preparations are
being made to pour curb and gutter to line the east side of the road, and paving
should begin next week.

Cedar Lake Rd Improvement - IL Rte 120 to Nippersink Rd
Limits: The project limits extend from just north of Illinois Route 120 to the curve just south of Nippersink Road for a distance of about 4400’.
Description: The project will reconstruct the road from 2 lanes to 3 lanes of pavement to accommodate a center turn lane, including a new multi-use path with a connection to the Forest Preserve. In 2017, much of the construction was limited to a large culvert replacement in Squaw Creek.
In 2018, roadwork includes a detour for northbound traffic while southbound continues on Cedar Lake Rd during construction. The west half of the road will be constructed first with southbound traffic using the east half. During the duration of the detour southbound traffic will be switched over to the newly constructed west half while the east half is constructed. The detour is planned to last about three months with completion of the whole project by the end of August 2018.
