As you travel around the County, you will find a number of road and highway projects. The impact on your activities, delays and potential alternate routes are quite important. And things can change daily due to a new project, weather and more. I received notice Monday that IDOT had just closed Rt. 14 at the CNRR crossing in Barrington until 6 p.m., Friday, June 8.
Gilmer, Darlington, Schwerman, Old McHenry (in Long Grove), and Quentin are, or will be, closed in part or whole, now or this week. This is just a partial list. For example, I 94 is impacted by a number of bridge replacement projects. The optimist in me reminds you that the inconvenience now will pay benefits in the future for traffic flow, cost control through scheduled maintenance, flood protection and comfort (think RR crossings).
For a terrific planning and travel information solution, Lake CountyPassage provides practical traffic information. Open the app or visit the website on your smartphone or other device, click on the symbols and get more detailed information and project links. Please explore this tool to learn about its features, including "push" alerts.
Please be alert, follow posted speeds and be considerate of road workers. Their families expect them home for dinner as much as our families do each day.
You'll find much more information below. I invite you to explore some of the quick, community and other links. You will find many surprises! Concerts in local parks or Independence Grove, car shows, recycle days, book sales, craft beer and other fests, parades, hikes and bikes in the Forest Preserves, fishing, swimming, roller coasters, farmers' markets and so much more abound in Lake County. Enjoy!
Please call or email me with your questions and concerns.
Regards,

Much of the infrastructure owned and maintained by Lake
County Public Works is underground. In order for Public Works to monitor and
evaluate the condition of the overall system, they need to see what’s going on
underground. In this video,
travel along the pipes and learn more about the process for televising and
inspecting the sewer lines. This inspection identifies areas in need of repair
and sets in motion the planning and engineering needed to maintain the
infrastructure. Public Works uses this information to develop a multi-year
maintenance schedule to make sure they are investing in the system at the right
time and in the most efficient way.

This summer, the Lake County Health Department reminds you to take action to protect yourself from illness and prevent the spread of germs when swimming. Here are ways to protect yourself from illness at pools and water parks:
- Don’t swim or let your children swim when sick with diarrhea.
- Don’t swallow the water.
- Check out the pool’s latest inspection report and do your own mini-inspection (check that you can see the pool drain, locate the lifeguard on duty, and locate safety equipment that is available).
