Environmental Health
Tick removal

TICKS. These creepy, blood-sucking arachnids can carry a lot of diseases, including Lyme disease. Do you know how to properly remove a tick? DO use a tweezers, DON'T twist or jerk, burn, or smother the tick with oils or petroleum jelly. Click the thumbnail to the left to watch our "Tick Removal 101" video and learn more on our Fight the Bite web page.

Mental Health

May is Mental Health Month! Did you know that 1 in 5 Americans is affected by mental health conditions? Stigma is toxic to mental health because it creates an environment of shame, fear, and silence that prevents many people from seeking help and treatment. Watch Inna's story about her journey to better mental and physical health.

World No Tobacco Day is May 31. Did you know that 95 percent of adults who smoke started before the age of 21? Right now the Illinois House is nearing passage of the bill that would raise the Minimum Legal Sales Age (MLSA) of tobacco products and e-cigarettes to 21. If the bill passes the House, it will then go to the Governor for his signature to become State law. Check out the video above to learn more about 'Tobacco 21' policies and how local high school students Serena and Borler are taking action to protect future generations.
