Lake County State's Attorney's Office Hosts Victims' Rights Event

Creating a More Inclusive Lake County

(Lake County, IL) State’s Attorney Michael G. Nerheim invites residents of Lake County to attend the free event, Creating a More Inclusive Lake County, on Tuesday April 10th from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Gurnee, 6161 W. Grand Avenue in Gurnee, IL. Viewing of the 2016 Oscar-winning short film Sing (Mindenki) will be followed by a facilitated discussion and break-out sessions. The film’s message of inclusion and fighting oppression and injustice will guide the afternoon’s dialogue. There will be a focus on historically excluded groups, including individuals with disabilities and members of the LGBTQIA community. A Safe Place Executive Director Pat Davenport and Lake County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor will join Nerheim at this event.

Creating a More Inclusive Lake County is Lake County’s commemoration of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, which begins April 8th and runs through the 14th. The national theme, “Expand the Circle. Reach All Victims” underscores the need to reach all victims of crime.

"National Crime Victims' Rights Week gives us an opportunity to celebrate the courage of victims of crime,” State’s Attorney Michael G. Nerheim stated. “It is my hope that this year’s focus on historically excluded groups will encourage more people to come forward and report crime when it occurs. Indeed, all residents of our community benefit when we are inclusive,” he added.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has received funding from the National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA) through a grant from the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) to promote community awareness of crime victims’ rights and services during the 2018 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office was one of the 78 projects recommended by NAVAA and selected for funding by OVC for 2018, from 185 applications that were submitted nationwide.
