Stormwater Management Awards
Earlier this month, the 2017 Stormwater Award winners were honored
for their outstanding achievements. These individuals, communities, groups and
organizations exemplify SMC’s core mission of flood damage reduction, water
quality improvement, and natural resource protection and enhancement. Lake
County is very fortunate to have this level of collaborative dedication and
investment to stormwater management.

Job Opportunities The Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) has two exciting job opportunities. SMC is seeking a qualified contractor to help oversee Lake County’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4) program. The contractor will advance County environmental goals and be responsible for supporting Lake County compliance with the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) MS4 permit.
College students and recent graduates with an interest in
geographic information system (GIS) should check out the 2018 Summer GIS
Internship. Interns will get hands on experience with creating and/or enhancing
maps, identifying detention basins in the Lake Michigan Watershed, maintaining

Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office is currently accepting resumes for its
2018 summer internship program. The program is available to first and
second year law students and to college students who have completed their first
year. The deadline to apply is Feb. 28. Find Out More

Ballots for the March 20 Primary Election are ready for those
choosing to vote early at the County Clerk’s office or by mail. Candidate certification
and ballot printing were delayed because the court was reviewing a decision by
the Illinois State Board of Elections regarding an objection filed against an
attorney general candidate. Here’s what you need to know to vote early or vote
by mail.
Voter Registration
Online voter registration is available through the Illinois State
Board of Elections until March 4. A valid Illinois driver’s license or state
identification card is required. Apply now
Early Voting
In-person early voting at the Clerk’s office, 18 N. County St.,
Waukegan, is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until March 2.
Beginning March 5, early voting will be available at all 15 sites
throughout the county. For early voting, Lake County residents may use any
location regardless of where they live. Grace registration will be
available at all early voting sites, and citizens must vote at the same time as
registering.
Vote by Mail
Registered voters can vote by mail by completing
a personalized online application. The last day for the
Clerk’s office to receive your application and mail a ballot is March 15.

A Paratransit Market Study is underway in Lake County to
evaluate transportation options for seniors, people with disabilities, and the
general public. The public was recently invited to learn more about the study
at the second round of community meetings held in January 2018. Meeting
attendees had the opportunity to provide input on the analysis of existing
conditions and draft recommendations for service implementation. If you weren’t
able to attend one of the meetings, please provide your feedback by taking the
online survey.

The Internal Revenue Service is warning taxpayers of a quickly growing
scam involving erroneous tax refunds being deposited into their bank accounts.
After stealing client data from tax professionals and filing fraudulent tax
returns, criminals use the taxpayers' real bank accounts for the deposit.
Thieves are then using various tactics to reclaim the refund from the
taxpayers. Find out more.
Meet Bones, the newest member of the Lake County Coroner's Office!
Bones, a Belgian Malinois, is in training to become a cadaver dog and to search
for missing persons. Bones also will provide grief support for family members
who lost a loved one.

natural history of the state symbols and may also include a brief walk. The

Improvements Coming to Lake Zurich Lake Zurich is undertaking several major projects this year. These include the annual road resurfacing program, the Buffalo Creek Lift Station replacement,
the Breezewald Park Beverage Pavilion, storm sewer improvements downtown, and

Help Restore the Habitat Join volunteers to help remove invasive buckthorn and replant native grass and flower seeds from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 24 at Kuechmann Park in Lake Zurich. This is open to adults and children age 8 and older with an adult.
Barrington Chamber Offers Scholarship Application forms are available for the Barrington Area Chamber of
Commerce Lauren Brown Memorial Scholarship. BACC offers several
scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500 for students who plan to attend a
