Election Ahead - Candidate Filing

Candidate Petition Packets will soon be available for March 20, 2018 General Primary Election

Waukegan, Illinois - Lake County Clerk Carla N. Wyckoff announced that established political party Lake County candidates wishing to appear on the March 2018 General Primary Election ballot may download courtesy petition packets from the Clerk’s website (LakeCandidatePower.info) or visit the Clerk’s office for paper copies beginning August 28, 2017. Circulation period begins Monday, September 5 and ends Monday, December 4, 2017.

Lake County offices to be nominated in the primary include County Clerk; Treasurer; Sheriff; Regional Superintendent of Schools; County Board Member for Districts 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21; and North Shore Water Reclamation District for Wards 3 and 5. Precinct Committeemen for the two major political parties and City of Lake Forest Aldermen will be elected at the General Primary Election.

Petitions may be filed in-person by the candidate, a candidate representative, or by mail beginning Monday, November 27 through Monday, December 4, 2017 with the Lake County Clerk during normal weekday office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The City of Lake Forest will distribute petition packets and accept filings for city aldermen candidates.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to consult their own legal advisors on questions related to qualifications for office, preparation of petition papers, circulation requirements, or signature requirements. Once the petition papers are officially filed, they cannot be changed or amended. The County Clerk and staff are not able to provide legal opinions.

The 2018 Candidate’s Guide and 2018 Election and Campaign Disclosure Calendar are available online at Illinois State Board of Elections website (http://elections.il.gov).

Petition packets for independent and new party candidates will be available after the March primary.
