Current Conditions

Record flooding continues in Lake County from the Chain O’Lakes, Fox River and Des Plaines River, and we are continuing to monitor flooding of several rivers, streams and lakes.

Fox River/Chain O'Lakes
The Fox River gauge at New Munster, WI  crested at 17.47 feet and is going down. It is now at 14.67 feet, but is still at major flood stage.

The Fox Lake at Lake Villa gauge is is 8.02 feet, and is cresting right now. In comparison, the crest in 2013 was 7.9 feet. Floodwaters will take SEVERAL WEEKS to subside fully.

The lower Fox River is still expected to go up, and has not crested.

Des Plaines River
The Des Plaines River at Russell, Gurnee and Lincolnshire remain at major flood stage. At these three gauges, the Des Plaines River has crested and is going down.

Damage Assessment

This morning, LCEMA is reaching out to communities to inquire about damage assessment, as well as debris removal plans, including disposal of flood-contaminated debris (sandbags and flood-soaked personal property).

REMINDER Damage Assessment Form Workshop
You are encouraged to attend a workshop tomorrow where we will provide additional information on the damage assessment process, including how to complete the required forms. It will be held Tuesday, July 18 at 1 p.m. at Libertyville Village Hall, 118 West Cook Ave., Libertyville.

All community partners are welcome. We have also invited IEMA to attend.

Damage Assessment Forms: You can fill out IEMA damage assessment forms to be submitted directly to the Lake County Emergency Management Agency by email at room-43200@room.veoci.com.

Today, representatives from the Illinois Emergency Services Management Association (IESMA) are in Lake County to help conduct damage assessments. The US Civil Air Patrol is currently capturing aerial photography of the flooded areas. We will likely have access to the first batch of photography later today and we’ll be able to share that with the public.
