UPDATE: Lake County Monitoring Local Flooding

Heavy rainfall overnight and into this morning has caused flooding concerns for Lake County. The Lake County Stormwater Management Commission has changed our flood status to red, meaning major flooding is occurring in Lake County this morning.

Reports indicate that over the last 24 hours, Lake County has received in the range of 1.1 to 6.5 inches of rain. Lake County officials are working together to assist local communities in response to flooding. We are currently monitoring weather forecasts because the threat of more severe weather and continued heavy rains will continue throughout the day. Many water storage areas are full, or over-capacity, and additional rain will continue to cause problems.

The Fox River and Des Plaines River are projected to be at upper moderate flood levels based on current rainfall. We will continue to monitor throughout the day as we anticipate additional rainfall here in Lake County.

Many roadways are impacted with water on the pavement, leading to road closures. This is making travel difficult through many areas of the county. For updated road conditions, please visit Lake County PASSAGE at www.lakecountypassage.com. It is dangerous to drive through water. Motorists should remember to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown”.

Watch for updates on Lake County's Facebook page. We will be posting information as the situation develops. Click to edit this placeholder text.
