Lake Michigan Water Delivered to Grandwood Park Water System

The Grandwood Park Water System has undergone big changes, and the project to bring Lake Michigan Water to the homes served by this water system is complete!

At Lake County Public Works, it is our job to plan for the future and to make sure we have a safe and sustainable source of drinking water. In 2011, we received a Lake Michigan water allocation and created a partnership with Lindenhurst and Lake Villa to bring Lake Michigan water to Grandwood Park, Lindenhurst, Lake Villa, and Fox Lake Hills. The Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency (CLCJAWA) has extended their mains to Grandwood Park, and the communities in this system began receiving Lake Michigan Water this month. Water Rate Increase
As a result of switching to a new water source, residents in Grandwood Park will see an increase in their water rate starting August 1, 2017. Depending on how much water you use, the increase in your bill can vary. From what we see in areas already served by Lake Michigan water, an average customer using 5,500 gallons of water per month will see an increase of approximately $20.00 per 2-month bill.

To promote water conservation, the County recently established a tiered water rate. To see a chart illustrating the tiered rate, please visit the project website at www.lakecountyil.gov/229. Conserving water can save you money and it helps Public Works minimize future rate adjustments. Below are some water conservation tips.

Water Conservation

Water is a valuable resource that should not be wasted.  Here are some water conservation tips that you can practice at home or work.

  • Sign up at www.lakecountyil.gov/waterportal to track your water use and check for leaks
  • Fix any faucet, toilet and showerhead leaks
  • Use the dishwasher and washing machine only with full loads
  • Don’t let the water run while brushing your teeth or shaving
  • Don’t use the toilet as a trash can
  • Water the lawn early in the morning or during the evening to minimize evaporation
  • Use a timer when watering the lawn
  • Install low flow toilets and showerheads
  • Install aerators on bathroom and kitchen faucets

Outside Watering Restrictions

From May 15 to Sept. 15 each year, County ordinance prohibits the use of water for outside watering purposes between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and further restricts outside water usage to days coinciding with your address (odd/even).
