"Operation Green Light” is in Full Effect…
Lake
County Circuit Clerk Erin Cartwright Weinstein, in conjunction with the Lake
County State’s Attorney’s Michael G. Nerheim announces, “Operation Green Light”
Waukegan, IL - Drivers with outstanding fines and costs for traffic
violations in Lake County, IL could be experiencing Christmas in July this
summer. Erin Cartwright Weinstein, Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court and
Michael G. Nerheim, Lake County State’s Attorney announced on June 7, 2017 that
the Circuit Clerk’s Office and State Attorney’s Office will be joining together
to have an amnesty week.
The initiative offers participants the
opportunity to pay off any outstanding traffic tickets at their original cost.
Harris & Harris, the county’s collection agency, has agreed to waive their
collection fees, and Lake County will waive accrued interest. “I understand that fines can become costly,
especially when older fines incur collection agency fees and accrue interest. The point of Operation Green Light is to help
people clear up their financial obligations and get back on the road.” said
Erin Cartwright Weinstein.
County officials said the incentive
would help residents who have suspended licenses for outstanding tickets and
fines work towards a better tomorrow. Lake County Board Member, Audrey Nixon,
who recently passed away, was passionate about helping Lake County residents
regain their driver’s license.
“Operation Green Light is our way of honoring Audrey Nixon’s legacy,”
said Cartwright Weinstein.
The Lake County Circuit Clerk and the
State’s Attorney’s Office will be offering the Operation Green Light from 8:30am to 5:00pm July 17 – 21, 2017. Operation Green Light payments can be
made over the phone (see numbers below), and at any of our four court
locations: Lake County Courthouse Main Office in Waukegan, Mundelein Branch
Court, Park City Branch Court, or Round Lake Beach Branch Court.
“It is my hope that this program will
allow people the opportunity to get their licenses back so they can get to work
and avoid future penalties.” said Lake County State’s Attorney Michael G.
Nerheim.
